SMMM_ Body architecture

This week’s class we grouped up as 3 and played around each other’s body architecture and texture.

Yuhan uses various connections between joints to create body architecture.

The first play she showed us not only the structure but also the depth map in which we could see our actual body. Danni and I both felt that it would work better when got rid of the depth map. So we start the second try. Yuhan removes depth map and we just get the feedback of lines connected by joints. The stretching between hand joints is the most interesting part which felt like clapping hands, and we thought it would be fun if clapping sounds were added to it.

Danni uses joints to create curved shapes with a 50% opacity.

The overlapped part of the shapes is the most interesting part due to the opacity, which attaches all our attentions. they did a lot of twists and turns to change the shape scale. We don’t feel constrained as there’s no outline for the shape, so we tends to stretch out their bodies to create bigger shapes. The Contortion happens when we stretched out our arms to create more space between two shapes.

My body architecture lowered down the center of gravity to compose a geometry shape.

What I original to do is to have a boundary distance. When people go across the boundary, they will connect their body into different geometry shapes. Actually, every joint could have a connection with each other, but whether you could connect it or not depend on the sketch level of the body, and the architecture design mainly relied on proximal joints rather that stretching out points.. In the playing process, my teammates could feel their body constrained by the sketch. The funnies part is to create a regular geometry shape by doing difficult contortions. It was even harder to see clearly what shape you have.

2. Body Architecture

The design intention was to see how would user react with it when the texture became something gentler and softer than human body. What’s more,  Danni designed a hidden hole in the center of the body – as long as you assemble all your body part to the center, you would be “eaten” by the black hole. Yuhan found the black hole thing immediately while I didn’t even notice it because when I try to assemble my body I cannot see clearly what the shape goes, so I stop doing this.

The fluffy pompom which is visually cute and inviting. The first thing popped into my mind was to jump with it as if it was alive. I could watch a pompom jumping for a whole day. Moreover,  because of its fluffy substance, it made me wanna swing to see how all its hair would move along the wind.
